Thrilling real-life Red Sandalwood Lecture online. Mrs. Chan Laiwa, Mr. Chi Chongrui co-interpret the beauty of red sandalwood!

On the 28th of April, the Red Sandalwood lecture which is one of Great Chinese Traditional Culturereal-life lecture series kicked off. The special guests Mrs. Chan Laiwa, Curator of Red Sandalwood Museum, Mr. Chi Chongrui, President of Beijing Red Sandalwood Culture Foundation guided the overseas Chinese students from Superior Education of Spain, Slovak National Academy, Italian Varese Chinese School, Dolemi Cultural School of Spain and through the lens with 642,546 on-line teachers and students from 36 countries to uncover the mysterious veil on red sandalwood by touring around in China Red Sandalwood Museum.

 

 

This real-life lecture has been lead by Curator Mrs. Chan Laiwa and Foundation President Mr. Chi. Ms. Zhang Lin as indoor setting and special guest Mr. Zhang Zejun as outdoor setting jointly performed as key speakers. After the lecture got started, the overseas students who were participating the lecture interaction by multi-point interactive live broadcasting system of real-life lectures of Chinese Language and Culture Foundation, the fresh way of interaction is widely inspired teacher and studentslearning interest.

 

Mr. Zhang Zejun firstly introduced the origin of name, usage and historic development of red sandalwood in order to open the door for students having an initial understanding of the past and present tensesof red sandalwood.

  

Strolling into the China Red Sandalwood Museum, Curator Mrs. Chan began to share her driving force of becoming attached to red sandalwood from her Manchu Zhenghuangqi aristocracy family background. She vividly explained the locality of growth, feature, specialty and unique medicinal value by the means of physical display. Whats more, all students have been overwhelmingly stunned by the magical powerof red sandalwood after Curator Mrs. Chan especially showed them a Geosaurus which placed on a piece of red sanlawood item, thanks to the strong antioxidant effect of red sandalwood, though after 18 years of death the Geosaurus is still in the the intact no-rotten form while still maintained elastic without any procession.

 

Watching the red sandalwood round-backed armchair and official cap chair which are replicated in accordance with the originals from The Palace Museum and witnessing the so called 1000 years old hollow red sandalwood, students not only appreciated the aesthetic value of red sandalwood but also deeply touched by its extremely precious rarity.

 

 

One inch of red sandalwood values one inch of gold, the preciousness of red sandalwood also lies in the carving craftsmanship. In the lecture, Curator Chan unfolded the carving tools, skills and artistic aesthetics to students on site by displaying the workmanship of red sandalwood furniture through the procedures of chisel, carving, burnish, waxing.

 

Moreover, Curator Mrs. Chan presented students a museum collection of red sandalwood Prince Siheyuan module in proportion of 1:8 (Siheyuan: a residence with houses around a courtyard). Foundation President Chi further showed a Beijing civilian Siheyuan module in proportion of 1:5 as comparison. All the students have been deeply attracted to the Chinese traditional residential culture. The architecture structure and layout which combine Beijng Siheyuan and natural environment, the residential allocating culture that contains the concepts of respect for seniority and awareness among different ranks have left a profound impression to students as well.

 

 

Followed by Curator Mrs. Chans lead, students moved forward to appreciate the Yongding Gate tower module in proportion of 1:10 which is made from red sandalwood and buried wood (yinchenmu). It is truly a breathtaking experience by witnessing such solid material structure, exquisite carving technique and the priceless historical value.  

 

In the end, Curator Mrs. Chan and Foundation President Mr. Chan stood on the module of red sandalwood Temple of Heaven and reached out to welcome the overseas Chinese young friends to visit and learn in China Red Sandalwood Museum and feel the broad and extensive red sandalwood culture.

 

 

Through this real-life lecture, students grasp a whole package of the particular charm of red sandalwood from the perspectives of historic origin, collection value, pharmaceutical value, workmanship value and so forth. Curator Mrs. Chan and Foundation President Mr. Chis lively presentation and interpretation lightened up the exploring interests for overseas Chinese students toward China Red Sandalwood Museum. More importantly, it sparkled their hearty wish to safeguard and inherit Chinese nationally traditional culture.
