MGM MACAU Pays Tribute to 15th Anniversary of Macau SAR through Sensational Works of Art

MGM MACAU is honored to co-host the “Red Sandalwood Art Exhibition of Old Beijing City Gates” with the China Red Sandalwood Museum, and in conjunction, to present the “One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao” Exhibition with China Daily and Fu Wah International Group, between November 20, 2014 and March 22, 2015. The two Exhibitions are specially hosted in commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of Macau S.A.R. establishment, and to exemplify the legacy of Chinese cultural arts.

 

The Opening Ceremony of “MGM MACAU • Red Sandalwood Art Exhibition of Old Beijing City Gates” and the Launch Ceremony of the “One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao” Album was inaugurated today at 2:30pm, where more than 150 invited guests graced Grande Praça for the celebrated afternoon. The Guests of Honor for the event are Mr. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the MacaoSAR; Mr. Edmund Ho, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. Chen Sixi, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Pan Yundong, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR;Madam Chan Laiwa, Deputy Director of the Subcommittee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Group chairwoman of Fu Wah International Group Co., Ltd. and the Curator of China Red Sandalwood Museum; Mr. Zhu Ling, Committee Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC and Publisher of China Daily;Ms. Pansy Ho, Co-Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited;Mr. Chi Chungsui, Director of Beijing Red Sandalwood Culture Foundation, and Mr. Bill Hornbuckle, Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited.

 

Ms. Pansy Ho, Co-Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited said at the ceremony,“MGM continues to bring in diverse art and cultural programs.  The MGM Art Space is conceived as a source of inspiration as much as a medium for MGM to engage and entertain visitors from around the world. The aim is to connect people through arts and cultures.  The MGM Art Space will provide a pioneering platform to further contribute diversification and entertaining experiences in line with Macau’s positioning as a global leisure tourism hub.”

 

At the Ceremony, Mr. Chi Chungsui, Director of Beijing Red Sandalwood Culture Foundationsaid, “The traditional Chinese culture is rich, extensive and profound. As China's economy continues to develop, the country and the public have a stronger aspiration to the revival of traditional Chinese culture.The China Red Sandalwood Museum has always take this as its mission. Just as Madam Chan said, the old Beijing city is the symbol of the traditional Chinese culture. She has always dreamt of reinventing the old Beijing city through the red sandalwood carvings. I think this is the best way to retain our memories of the old Beijing city as well as to revitalize the traditional Chinese culture.”

 

In his speech, Mr. Zhu Ling, Committee Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC and Publisher of China Daily, expressed, “The ‘One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao’ Exhibition and the publishing of the Album is significant to promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange between mainland China and Macau. These photographs show all aspects of Macau, reflect the communication and integration between the Chinese and western culture, as well as the well-being of Macau citizens. They also show Macau’s vitality and potential for development and their confidence towards the future. These photographs and the red sandalwood art pieces, together,show the essence of Chinese culture and allowlocals and visitors to relive the fabulous moments of the city, as captured by the photographers.”

 

The “Red Sandalwood Art Exhibition of Old Beijing City Gates” at MGM Art Space is the first art exhibition held in the city with a theme revolving the Old Beijing City. The Gates were the symbol of ancient Chinese civilization and prosperity, which showcases the sophisticated urban planning through intricate construction of the gates. The major exhibits are the miniature landscape of Yongding Gate and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven, both made of the precious red sandalwood, also known as the “Imperial Wood” in Chinese history. MGM Art Space is specifically furnished in resemblance to palaces in Ming and Qing dynasties, which accentuates the red sandalwood landscapes and furniture. Master wood carvers will also be on-site during specific periods to demonstrate the traditional Chinese sandalwood carving techniques, promoting the importance on preserving national intangible cultural heritage.

 

The “One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao” Exhibition illustrates Macau’s unique culture as well as its development since the Macau SAR establishment. Through the visions of 100 master photographers from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, precious moments are captured and expressed with emotions. This Exhibition aims to promote the mutual communication and friendship between Macau and China, as well as to carry forward the Chinese civilization. The One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao album published by China Daily is the latest of the Focus series. Mr. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macau SAR, and Mr. Edmund Ho, Vice chairwoman of The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference wrote inscriptions for the publishing of the Album.

About “One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao”

 

“One Hundred Photographers Focus on Macao” has received strong supports from various sectors of mainland China and Macau. The Exhibition and the publishing of the Album aims to promote of mutual communication between mainland China and Macau.

 

Since 2003, China Daily has utilized its role as China's national English-language news media platform and published Focus series albums such as Fighting SARS (2003), Facing the Cold(2008), Reporting from Epicenter (2008), 2008 Olympic Focus(2008), Focus on China (2009) andFocus on Taiwan (2013).

About The China Red Sandalwood Museum

 

Established on September 19, 1999, the China Red Sandalwood Museum is the largest thematic museum in China involved in research, display and collection of red sandalwood carving artworks. Through its principles of inheritance, development and innovation, the Museum collects and displays thousands of red sandalwood carving artworks and furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its mission is to protect, propagate and carry forward the moribund traditional red sandalwood carving arts.
